SumoSam Comes To Town
I love Japanese food and so, I was looking forward with great anticipation to the grand opening of the first ever SumoSam restaurant in Negros Occidental. This is their 28th store in the country and is located at the The District North Point in Talisay City. "This is clearly another milestone for us", Marvin Agustin, actor turned entrepreneur and chef said, referring to the fast pace of the chain's growth in recent years. SumoSam was started 8 years ago by Marvin together with two friends, Raymund Magdaluyo and Ricky Laudico. According to him there is always something new in their menu every 6 months and that they have roving Chefs from
their head office to ensure the consistency and quality of their food
in all their stores. All their kitchen have stations manned by
“specialists”, such as as the sushi, teppan and the ramen stations. It was also mentioned that they would source locally whatever fresh produce they need, as long as it is available in the province.
The grand opening was very well attended and the buffet table had a delightful spread of...what else but, Japanese food! My personal favorites were Chicken Teriyaki, Spicy Tuna Salad, the delicious Dynamite roll (with salmon but did not have the fishy taste), Crunchy Tuna Roll, and their yummy California Maki.

I still have to bring my Mom and I'm sure she would love it. We're both tofu lovers, so this Tofu dish is a must-try.

Both the Las Vegas Roll and SumoSam's Pride Salad look very inviting, so these two are definitely on my list next time I come around.

With it's great food, relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and good value for money, SumoSam is indeed a welcome addition to Metro Bacolod's restaurant scene. As what the brand's values says "SumoSam is a winner!"
The restaurant opens daily and is located near the Corte area, ground level of The District Ayala North Point, Talisay City.
I always love their California Maki. It's really nice to know that they have a new branch in Negros Occidental.
ReplyDeleteSumo Sam has a branch in Lucky Chinatown Mall and we are very near it. Despite that, we have not considered dining here because prices of their dishes are too expensive when compared to other Japanese restaurants offering the same.
ReplyDeletethey are a bit more expensive than the fastfood type of Japanese restos but they have big servings and their ramen is really delicious and can be shared by 4-5 people as I found out today :) we ate lunch there this noon with my mom.
DeleteTheir SumoSam pride salad is the winner! All of the ingredients blended in harmony and so is the taste.

DeleteA Japanese resto is here in our place. I am very glad to hear that for I live in Negros Occidental and this resto is in Talisay City. Talisay City is really improving...

ReplyDeleteThere are two fine dining Japanese Restaurants: Inaka and Kaisei...they are more expensive and servings are not as big. Their food is good too especially Inaka. The other Japanese restaurant in Bacolod is Rai Rai Ken. I think SumoSam is better.
DeleteI actually find Sumosam a bit hefty on the wallet. But their food is definitely worth spending on. :)

DeleteWhen I walk around the mall I always noticed that some Japanese Restaurant only have few costumer unlike other fast food chains that are always full. But I think sulit talaga pag kumain dito coz all the foods look delicious and fresh :)

SumoSam has always been one of my favorite go-to restaurants whenever my friends and I cant decide where to eat. ;)
